Australia and Thailand have agreed on a new health certificate, enabling Australia to export western rock lobster to Thailand for human consumption. The FX46 certificate, effective since 1 September 2021, applies to all rock lobster species importable to Thailand. This marks the first time western rock lobster can be exported to Thailand. Exporters may need to secure approval for other rock lobster species from Thai importers. Thailand is a burgeoning market for Australian agricultural products, including seafood, with rock lobster exports to Thailand surging from $42,000 in 2019–20 to $9.4 million in 2020-21, despite COVID-19's impact on premium food demand. The Australian Government's Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment and Austrade are supporting exporters in tapping into the Thai market, with a focus on market diversification and boosting future exports.
