Although the Calleri family never sought to make a living solely from pecan cultivation, when they began growing pecans, they did so with a long-term commitment. That is why they decided to be cautious and started, in their native Tucumán, with an initial plantation of 10 hectares.
“We are an agricultural and construction company, to which we have now added pecans. The idea was to maintain the structure of the farm,” Federico Calleri told Bichos de Campo. That is why they only decided to expand the productive area when they obtained the first signs of return on the initial investment.
“When it started to become a business unit, that’s when we began to grow the plantation. Today we are at 70 hectares and have a processing plant,” the producer pointed out.
But far from being experts in its cultivation, the man from Tucumán believes that the key to their success lies in the associative and collaborative work they managed to establish with the Pecan Producers Chamber, who guided them in this new activity.
