Belarus is self-sufficient in seeds for most crops but relies on imports for buckwheat and other crops that require optimal climatic zones for seed production. The country's liberal seed production law since 2013 has led to quality issues, and a new law is being revised to limit seed production to 50-60 farms. The country also faces issues with counterfeit seeds and lacks vegetable seed farms. Despite these challenges, Belarus has demand for its varieties of barley, wheat, and rapeseed in neighboring regions. The Scientific and Practical Center of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus for Potato and Horticulture ensures the country's need for seed tubers of Belarusian selection.
