The area of gray forest soils includes 8 sub-areas, which occupy the territory to the south of the first group – the chernozem area, in the piedmont part of Northern Bulgaria. This is the second of the 11 areas into which the country is divided according to the agroecological map of Bulgaria, prepared by the Institute of Soil Science, Agrotechnology and Plant Protection "N. Pushkarov". The main soil cover in this area is represented by uneroded, eroded, and shallow gray forest soils. The overall productive potential of the group of agroecological areas of gray forest soils, compared to those of the first group, is distinguished by a slightly lower average weighted for the entire area of the 8 included regions average (agronomic) score of 66, which also places them in the second quality group "good lands".
