While the national government of Javier Milei continues to “embezzle” the funds intended for water works, the Buenos Aires governor Axel Kicillof decided to move forward with a key project to complete the Master Plan of the Salado River. Few know that when refueling at a gas station they are contributing an aliquot of 5% on the value of the fuel that goes to the Hydro-Infrastructure Trust Fund. In the case of compressed natural gas (GNC), the contribution is 9%. Created in 2001 by then Economy Minister Domingo Cavallo, the proceeds from the trust instrument were allocated to the financing of infrastructure works designed to mitigate the disasters caused by the great flood recorded that year in vast productive regions of the province of Buenos Aires. But during Javier Milei’s management, the “spigot” of the trust was virtually closed, which paralyzed much of the water works carried out in the pampas region.
