White sugar has become more expensive in the EU

The average world market price of white sugar in December 2022 was 525 euros/ton, an increase of 1.3 percent compared to November. On the London Mercantile Exchange (LIFFE), the front-month white sugar quotation fell from 561 dollars (USD)/ton on January 17 to 546 dollars/ton on January 20, and then rose to 562 dollars/ton on January 27. The front-month quote for raw sugar was 444 dollars/ton at the beginning of the examined period, and then settled at 462 dollars/ton by the end of the period. According to data from the European Commission, the average price of white sugar in the Union in November 2022 was 622 euros/ton, an increase of 6 percent compared to the previous month. The European Union cannot publish the processing price of white sugar per member country for data protection reasons, so it forms three regional average prices from the data reported by the member countries and makes them public.
