The wholesale price of vegetables imported from abroad increased in the first 15 weeks compared to the same period of the previous year. With the increase in the supply of domestic grown and then free-range vegetables, their imports are expected to decrease in the coming weeks, and imports of some vegetables (e.g. parsley, garlic, pumpkin, horseradish, spinach, beetroot, Chinese cabbage) have not yet appeared on the domestic markets.

In our brief overview, we summarize the prices of imported vegetables offered at the Budapest Wholesale Market. The wholesale price of foreign cauliflower rose by 49%, broccoli by 31%, eggplant by 30%, and zucchini by 1% during the observed period. Hungarian storage cauliflower and broccoli were not included in the offer from February. In the first 15 weeks of 2023, domestic and foreign market products competed with each other for some vegetables at the Budapest Wholesale Market. During the observed period, some imported products were offered at higher prices than domestic products (e.g. potatoes, stuffed peppers, red onions) and others at lower prices (e.g. berry and cluster tomatoes).
