The Ministry of Agriculture explains the methodology behind the various compensations for failed crops – how technological costs determine the rates for coriander and sunflower.

After the Ministry of Agriculture and Food announced last week the compensations that will be paid for 100 percent failed areas last year, readers of Sinoor.bg asked for clarification on the huge difference in compensations that will be paid per hectare for completely destroyed coriander and for lost sunflower income. The rates per hectare for the first crop are 923 euros per hectare and 373 euros per hectare for sunflower. On the question of whether the budget for these compensations is common for all crops or is distributed by crop, the ministry explained that the allocated resource for the Aid for Compensation of Damage to Agricultural Crops does not apply to allocated crops. It is formed based on the size of the failed areas, the intensity of support for the respective crop, and the corresponding rate of euros/hectare, that is, in a single budget.
