Vietnam's Plant Protection Department has been alerted by China's Animal and Plant Quarantine Department about 30 shipments of Vietnamese durian contaminated with the heavy metal cadmium, exceeding China's food safety standards. The contaminated shipments, discovered between June 2023 and January 2024, belonged to 18 businesses. The department has instructed these businesses to investigate the cause, retrieve the shipments, review their processes, and implement preventive measures. It has also called on management agencies to supervise these businesses and assess food safety conditions at their establishments.
