The fishing sector's exports have decreased by 6.7% between January and September of this year, generating foreign currency of US$ 1,427 million. The main markets were Asia and Europe, with the Asian market accounting for US$ 534 million and Europe for US$ 472 million. Despite a 19.9% drop in volume and a 24.9% decrease in price, shrimp still made up 50% of the value chain. However, the price of shrimp tails increased by 9.6%, helping to offset a 26% decrease in exported tonnage. There was also an increase in the export value of filleted hake and squid, with toothfish seeing the biggest increase of 110.2%.
