With the shipment of the first 10 tons, SAG inaugurates a record season for Chilean cherry exports

The Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG) of Chile has initiated the cherry export season, with the first 10 tons being certified for shipment to countries like China, India, Thailand, Taiwan, South Korea, and Spain. With expectations to set a record in cherry exports this year, the SAG has increased staff and improved inspection and treatment systems to ensure compliance with international standards. The first shipments, totaling 2,186 boxes, were made by air from the regions of Coquimbo and Valparaíso. The SAG will continue to work closely with producers and exporters to ensure quality and compliance with standards. An agreement with the Chinese health authority also facilitates cherry shipments from quarantined areas, addressing issues related to fruit fly. This agreement, along with alternative cold treatment options in transit, aims to mitigate potential container shortages and ensure the maintenance of the export chain. The SAG's goal is to position the national agricultural sector as a key contributor to the country's growth, generating foreign currency and employment, and establishing Chile as a leading agri-food nation.
