Fish exports in Paraná saw a 20% increase in the first half of 2024, reaching 3.26 thousand tons and generating US$ 16.3 million, an 82% financial rise. The United States is the main market, taking 98% of exports, primarily tilapia. Paraná leads Brazil in tilapia production, driven by higher domestic consumption and cooperative efforts in the West region, which is the largest producer. The state's Gross Production Value (VBP) for fish was R$2.06 billion in 2023. Ten municipalities in Paraná account for 58% of the state's fish production, totaling R$81.3 million, while the rest contribute R$864.6 million. Nationally, fish exports dropped by 12.8% in the first half of the year, with 25.9 thousand tons exported, though the financial value rose slightly to US$149.6 million.
