Mendoza has long been fighting virtually alone against the Lobesia botrana—more commonly known as the grape moth—a quarantine pest of great impact on vineyards, which last year caused losses exceeding 10% and is already present in 80% of the cultivated area. Strictly speaking, the effort of the Institute of Agricultural Health and Quality of that province (Iscamen) has increased since the change of government, at the end of 2023. The fact is that, under the logic of reducing public spending, Senasa changed its role within the National Program for the control of this insect.
