World production of peaches and nectarines is projected to decline by 1.1 million tonnes in 2020/21 season

World production of peaches and nectarines will be reduced by 1.1 million tons to 21 million tons in the 2020/21 season. The drop in production is associated with a decrease in harvest in the leading producing countries due to unfavorable weather conditions. In China, production of peaches and nectarines will decrease by 500 thousand tons to 14.5 million tons due to heavy snowfall in April, which affected the fruit ovary. Exports of Chinese peaches and nectarines will decline by one third to 80 thousand tons, while imports will increase by 40% to 38 thousand tons in the 2020/21 season. A drop in the production of these stone fruits in the EU is forecasted to 3.5 million tons (-600 thousand tons), as orchards in Spain, Italy, Greece and France suffered from bad weather.
