Saudi Arabia's National Center for Research and Development for Sustainable Agriculture (Estidamah) has made a breakthrough in greenhouse asparagus production, potentially reducing the country's reliance on asparagus imports, which currently stand at around 340,000 tons annually. This innovation aims to meet domestic demand and support the tourism and hospitality sectors. The method allows for year-round cultivation and can be combined with the growth of fruit trees, increasing land use efficiency. The asparagus plant's high nutritional value and salt tolerance were key factors in Estidamah's focus on localizing its production.
