Yerba mate advances with support from climatic conditions

According to the Economic Bulletin released this Thursday (9) by Emater/RS-Ascar, the yerba mate crop is showing progress in the producing regions of the State, with a direct impact on management practices and commercialization. In the administrative region of Frederico Westphalen, yerba mate plantations have benefited from well-distributed rainfall in recent months. To ensure the production of leaves suitable for the period, producers are using cover crops such as black oat and fodder turnip, in addition to planting forage peanut seedlings in the rows. The price paid in the region varied between R$ 16.00 and R$ 20.00 per arroba, considering yerba mate leaves for chimarrão, export, and tererê delivered to the industry. In Lajeado, high temperatures and soil moisture have favored spring sprouting.
