Minister Zulkifli Hasan has signed the release of areca nut export shipments worth US$ 692 thousand to Saudi Arabia and Bangladesh, reinforcing Indonesia's leading global position as the largest exporter of areca nuts, contributing 35% to the world's demand. In the first five months of 2024, Indonesia's areca nut exports reached a value of US$ 49.1 million to countries such as Iran, India, China, Bangladesh, and Malaysia, aiming to grow in a market that saw a 39.04% increase in 2023. The Ministry of Trade is actively supporting the growth of other potential export commodities like chocolate, coffee, pepper, cloves, and cinnamon by opening access to foreign markets through trade agreements and providing support to exporters. This includes participation in the Trade Expo Indonesia event, which is set to take place on October 9-12, 2024, to further expand market opportunities.
