China’s sesame imports increased by 33.09% year-over-year (YoY) and 50.32% month-over-month (MoM) to 148.22 thousand mt in Mar-24. Among the countries exporting sesame to China, Niger had the highest share of 43.98%, followed by Ethiopia at 18.03%. Togo ranked third with a market share of 14%. The trade activities are limited due to weak local demand. Despite the increased imports, industry experts predict that the wholesale prices of sesame will remain stable in the short term due to the increasing sourcing costs.
