Spain recorded 143 cases of epizootic hemorrhagic disease in 2023

From September 20 to 27, which is the last update on the disease, the Central Veterinary Laboratory (LCV) of Algete, the national reference laboratory for this disease, has confirmed 13 new cases of epizootic hemorrhagic disease (EHE). Of them, 11 have been detected in cattle farms in the regions of Villacarriedo and San Vicente de Toranzo (Cantabria); Castejón de Sos (Huesca); Cantillana-Vega of Seville and Lebrija (Seville); Manzanares (Ciudad Real); Arnedo (La Rioja); Pamplona, Sanguesa and Ochagavia (Navarra); and Álava (Álava). Likewise, 2 cases have been detected in deer and roe deer in the regions of Requena (province of Valencia); and La Janda (province of Cádiz).
In Spain, 143 cases of EHE have been detected in 2023. This year, the presence of the EHE virus was confirmed for the first time in 3 deer in the municipality of El Pedroso, province of Seville, last July. The disease was detected for the first time in Spain in September 2022 in the southwest of the peninsula. The location of the new outbreaks does not imply modifications in the area from which movement is restricted.
