The World Citrus Organization (WCO) has predicted a slight decrease in citrus production in the southern hemisphere for the 2024 season, by 0.77%, but anticipates a 7.45% increase in exports. The forecast includes a decrease in orange production by 3.89%, an increase in mandarin and lemon production by 5.69% and 10.57% respectively, a decrease in lime production by 5.66%, and increases in grapefruit production by 11.58% and exports by 14.09%. The WCO has also announced a change in leadership, with Sergio del Castillo and Badr Bennis taking over from Justin Chadwick and José Antonio García. The organization has seen significant growth since its inception, with member numbers quadrupling and the establishment of new tools and working groups to support the citrus industry.
