The Black Sea Grain Initiative, launched on 22 July 2022 by Russia, Turkey, Ukraine, and the United Nations, has successfully transferred 2.7 million metric tons of grain and other foodstuffs from Ukraine to global destinations since 1 August. This initiative, which aims to reactivate Ukraine's exports of grain, foodstuffs, and fertilizer through a safe maritime corridor, is overseen by the Joint Coordination Centre (JCC) and employs safety measures in line with the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea and the International Ship and Port Facility Security Code. The cargo consists of a varied mix of crops, with the majority being corn, and has been distributed to both low and middle-income countries, as well as upper-middle income countries like Egypt, Iran, India, China, Türkiye, Bulgaria, and others.
