The government has distributed 3,310,000 sweet potato vines to all provinces as part of the Presidential Horticulture Recovery Plan, aiming to increase national production to 1 million tonnes per year. Under the Presidential Sweet Potato Program, 1.8 million households are set to benefit from the distribution of virus-free sweet potato vines, with a target of 90 million sweet potatoes by 2025. The crop is mainly grown in summer, but some farmers with irrigation facilities also grow sweet potatoes in winter, with an annual consumption estimated at 315,000 tonnes.
