(Changwon=Yonhap News) Reporter Lee Jeong-hoon = Gyeongnam Province has tallied that as of 7 a.m. on the 21st, 3,964 hectares of farmland were submerged due to the four-day heavy rainfall that began on the 16th.
As rice paddies, fields, and greenhouses were flooded, crop damage amounting to 59.4 billion won occurred, including rice (3,219 hectares), red peppers (163 hectares), soybeans (149 hectares), strawberries (79 hectares), and perilla leaves (25 hectares).
Sancheong County suffered the largest damage with 1,222 hectares.
This was followed by Hapcheon County (965 hectares), Uiryeong County (818 hectares), Changnyeong County (444 hectares), and Hadong County (142 hectares).
As of 7 a.m. on the 21st, livestock damage totaling 546 million won occurred, including 182 cattle (Sancheong County, Hapcheon County, Jinju City), 25 goats (Hapcheon County), 74,500 chickens (Sancheong County, Hapcheon County), 12,840 ducks (Uiryeong County), and 419 bee colonies (Miryang City, Haman County, Sancheong County, Geochang County).
According to the Gyeongnam Province Disaster and Safety Headquarters, an average of over 280 mm of heavy rainfall fell in 18 cities and counties of Gyeongnam Province from the 16th to the 19th.
In particular, Sicheon-myeon in Sancheong County recorded a cumulative rainfall of 798 mm, with extreme rainfall of 632 mm hitting the Sancheong area.
This was followed by Haman County with 583.5 mm, Hapcheon County with 532.2 mm, Changnyeong County with 374 mm, and Hadong County with 369.5 mm of rainfall.
