China, the world's largest pork market, imported 2.8 million tonnes of pig meat worth $8 billion from January to August 2021, according to a report from IndexBox. Despite a slight increase in value, the volume of imports remained almost unchanged from the previous year. Pork supplies from the US experienced a 36% drop, while Spain and Brazil significantly increased their exports to China. However, China's pork imports are projected to decrease by 5% in 2022 due to an increase in domestic production. Meanwhile, a Polish market analyst predicts that China could achieve 100% pig meat self-sufficiency by 2022.
