The prices of tomatoes and potatoes in Egypt have significantly dropped by 60% and 50% respectively, according to Hatem Naguib, Vice President of the Vegetables and Fruits Division at the Federation of Chambers of Commerce. This decrease is due to an oversupply caused by winter production and the start of new crop seasons for various vegetables including cucumbers, eggplant, zucchini, peppers, and lettuce. The price drop follows a period of high prices in August and September, attributed to high temperatures damaging tomato crops and increased middlemen involvement by the Ministry of Agriculture.
