A new case of monkeypox at a farm near the border

After several weeks without registered outbreaks of small ruminant disease, the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA) detected a primary outbreak of the disease at the border with Turkey in the village of Kapitan Andreevo, Svilengrad municipality. The disease was identified in a livestock facility with 191 sheep and 10 goats. A 3-kilometer protective zone has been established around the outbreak, which includes the village of Kapitan Andreevo. The 10-kilometer observation zone around the outbreak includes the city of Svilengrad and the villages of Generalovo and Chernodab in Svilengrad municipality, Haskovo region. Measures have been taken to control and eliminate the disease, in accordance with European and national legislation – humane euthanasia and disposal of all infected and contact small ruminant animals in the facility.
