A unique walnut gene pool has developed in Ukraine

Before the war, more than 10 million walnut trees grew in Ukraine. As a result of centuries-old folk selection, plantations of this culture in our country grow much further north than in other countries. Such data are voiced in the material of the magazine "Gardening in Ukrainian". "It grew and was not cultivated, because thanks to its unique plasticity (the ability to adapt to different natural conditions), the walnut tree grows and bears fruit, almost without needing attention. And although all trees are of seed origin and their fruits are of different quality, Ukrainian nuts are valued on the international market for their good taste and environmental friendliness," emphasized Nataliya Shevchuk, a scientist from the National University of Bioresources and Nature Management of Ukraine.
