In 2023, Argentina's dairy sector experienced a slight increase in the number of dairy farms and cows being milked, despite a 2% drop in milk production due to food shortages and uneven climate conditions. The average herd per dairy farm was 156 heads, with a daily production of 3,043 liters per establishment. However, exports declined significantly, with a 14.2% decrease in exported products and a 20.2% drop in foreign exchange income. The main export destinations were Brazil, Chile, and Algeria. The dairy prices rose year-on-year above general inflation, less than food, and were above raw milk, which had a year-on-year increase of 249%. The wholesale prices are expected to show a year-on-year increase of around 234%, suggesting an increase in the mark up due to higher margins and/or higher logistics and marketing costs.
