Algeria's demand for Malaysian palm oil has surged, with exports to Algeria increasing by 82% in 2024, reaching approximately 79,000 tonnes. This growth is primarily driven by the country's expanding food industry, with palm oil finding use in various food products and industrial applications. Despite accounting for a small fraction of Algeria's total cooking oil imports, the future demand for palm oil is expected to rise. To explore trade and business opportunities, the Malaysian Palm Oil Council and four Malaysian companies participated in Djazagro, Algeria's largest agriculture industry exhibition. The government of Malaysia is also looking to strengthen trade ties with Algeria in areas such as the digital economy, tourism, halal industry, and mutual investment promotion.
