The Central Veterinary Laboratory has confirmed the presence of the African swine fever (ASF) virus in another seven wild boars found dead in Cerdanyola del Vallès (Barcelona), very close to where the other two were found last week. With these new positives, the presence of the disease is confirmed in a total of nine wild animals, all in the same area, whose positives have been reported to the European Commission and the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE). The official veterinary services of Catalonia, in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, have delimited a control and surveillance area within a 20-kilometer radius around the detected cases. In this area, hunting has been prohibited to prevent the movement of wild boars and to prevent the spread of the virus outside the zone.
