Almond production in Spain will exceed 373,500 tons, 17% more than in the last campaign

Spain's Ministry of Agriculture has reported a significant recovery in almond production for the 2024/2025 campaign, with an estimated total of 373,558 tonnes, marking a 17.5% increase from the previous campaign and a 9.1% rise above the average of the last five years. Despite challenges such as frost and drought, almonds remain Spain's primary nut crop, covering 85% of the country's total nut cultivation area. However, the production recovery is not even across all regions.

The nuts sector, which includes almonds, pistachios, and walnuts, shows promising growth potential with a significant portion of plantations not yet in production. Almonds contribute significantly to Spain's nut export value, accounting for 90% of the total, and experiencing a positive trade balance of 188 million euros in the last campaign. The sector is encouraged to focus on production differentiation, with organic farming accounting for a third of the total planted area and showing great productive potential. From 2025, labels will be required to reflect the country of origin, providing more opportunities for product valorization and differentiation.
