The cherry market in Ukraine is on the rise in terms of production, with 89.5% of cherries being exported primarily to Belarus, followed by Russia and other countries, according to Elena Kaizhen, executive director of the Association of Berries of Ukraine. The association is looking to establish direct contacts between Ukrainian producers and buyers in Germany, Great Britain, and Austria. However, exporting requires Global G.A.P. certification and in the case of Germany, additional GRASP certification. While China and Korea are potential markets due to their preference for large berries, the lack of coordination between the Main Customs Administration of China and the State Food and Consumer Service of Ukraine on phytosanitary requirements for cherry exports since 2018 is hindering supply to these countries.
