Egypt's exports of medicinal and aromatic plants increased by 4% in value and 1% in quantity in the last fiscal year compared to 2018-2019, according to the Export Council for Agricultural Crops. The country exported about 48,000 tons of these plants, worth around $ 81.1 million, with the United States and Germany being the top two importers. Anise seed was the most exported plant, followed by hibiscus, fresh milking, mint leaves, and marjoram. Egypt is one of the leading producers and exporters of medicinal and aromatic plants, with over 30 types grown economically across the country, primarily in Upper Egypt. Ayman Mahmoud Hammouda, Director of the Horticultural Research Institute, has called for a new economic approach to these plants, focusing on their potential to support various industries and create job opportunities.
