In the first 9 months of 2024, Italy experienced a 10.2% increase in imports in the cereals, protein flours and oilseeds sector, reaching 1,716,000 tonnes, despite a 10.3% decrease in value to 732.0 million euros. This is attributed to higher imports of soft wheat and corn, but lower imports of durum wheat and barley. Exports also increased by 0.6%, with a notable rise in pasta, soft wheat flour, and rice exports. Currency movements led to a decrease in the net exchange balance from -2,749.9 million Euros in 2023 to -1,997.5 million Euros in 2024.
