The Ministers of Agriculture and Food and of Environment and Water announced the introduction of a permanent ban on the catch of all species of sturgeon in the Bulgarian waters of the Danube River and the Black Sea. This important decision aims to save the critically endangered fish from extinction and to contribute to the restoration of biodiversity in the region, according to WWF. Sturgeons have been banned for fishing in Bulgaria since 2011, with all previous orders being temporary, renewed annually or once every 5 years. With the new order, our country joins the other Danube and Black Sea countries where permanent bans on sturgeon fishing are in force. This ensures the fair sharing of restrictions on the use of shared resources among neighboring countries.
