Andalucía records the first outbreak of West Nile virus in horses in 2024 in Spain

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA) has published an outbreak of West Nile virus in horses in the municipality of Los Palacios and Villafranca, in the province of Seville. According to MAPA, there would be one affected horse and a total of 32 sensitive animals. The focus confirmation date is July 5. This is the second focus of the virus to be detected in Spain in 2024 in animals, but the first in horses, since the first and previous outbreak of West Nile virus that was detected was in wild birds in Castilla y León.
