In the fiscal year 2021-22, Iran experienced a significant decrease in pistachio exports, with a 33% drop in both volume and value, totaling 115,557 tons worth $696.04 million. The main export destinations were China, India, and Russia. The pistachio industry has been further crippled by severe cold weather in Kerman Province, causing an estimated $460 million in damage to pistachio orchards, covering around 180,000 hectares and resulting in a projected decline in production by 65,000 tons. The agriculture sector is also under threat due to water scarcity, with drought leading to an estimated $2.4 billion in losses since the previous crop year.
