The Warmi Tarpuy Agrarian Cooperative in Apurímac, Peru, has shipped 20 tons of organic quinoa and one ton of chia to Italy, its first shipment of Andean grains to the European market. The cooperative, which is made up of 85 partners, 80% of whom are women, is projecting to produce 200 tons of organic quinoa in 2024. The quinoa has several certifications, including Organic, Family Farming, and Fair Trade, and the cooperative is in the process of obtaining the ROC (Regenerative Organic Certified) certification. Agromercado, the commercial arm of the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation, is providing commercial assistance, training, and promotional opportunities to the cooperative, aiming to empower rural women and improve their access to global markets.
