Argentina has imposed a ban on livestock and hunting product imports from Germany due to outbreaks of foot-and-mouth disease in Germany. The disease, not detected in Germany for 37 years and in Europe for 14 years, has been detected in three water buffaloes in Brandenburg. In response, Argentina has suspended imports from Germany of goods that could transmit the disease and strengthened controls at borders, airports, and ports. The disease can cause significant economic loss to cattle, pigs, buffaloes, and sheep.
