Thanks to the Multiplicative Center for Biocontrol Agents (Cemubio) of INTA Alto Valle, Argentina completed its first export of biocontrol agents abroad. This involves the shipment to Uruguay of 4,950 specimens of Goniozus legneri, a parasitoid wasp used in Northern Patagonia to control grafolita and carpocapsa, two economically high-impact pests in fruit farming. The initiative is part of the Procisur project —the technological articulation platform of the Southern Cone— aimed at the cross-validation of bioinputs developed by institutions from Argentina, Chile, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay. In this process, Goniozus legneri was the only proposed biocontrol agent selected for testing in Uruguay, which will be used in apple orchards.
