Argentina may start the squid fishing season early, potentially causing a "beginning of the year shock" in global squid prices.

According to Resolution No. 937/97 of the Argentine Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries (SAGPyA), the originally scheduled start date for the squid fishing season was February 1. However, in the application, CAPA pointed out that monitoring data from the National Institute of Fisheries Research and Development (INIDEP) in recent years has shown that the resources of the South Patagonian squid population (SSP) have begun to migrate in early January. Starting the fishing season earlier could improve fishing efficiency and alleviate the pressure of fishing vessels crowding in later periods.
