Argentina: Worrying acceleration of pork imports

Pork imports have taken a very important leap in recent months. The local market is complicated. Pork imports reached 2,206 tons last month, a volume that reflects a growth of around 194% compared to the same period of the previous year. However, when the purchases of this product in the first nine months of 2024 are computed, the figures reach 7,841 tons, around 44% less when compared to the consolidated values of the first nine months of last year. As reflected in the attached graph, a significant acceleration of imports has been observed in recent months. Without going any further, during the third quarter of the year (July-September) Argentine purchases of this product from abroad reached 3,565 tons, 50% more than in the same period of the previous year.
