Turkish agricultural producers are experiencing a surge of interest in Aronia fruits, also known as chokeberries, due to their high nutritional value and antioxidant properties. These berries are being incorporated into various food and pharmaceutical products, with demand driven by their status as a superfood. The adoption of Aronia in Turkey's agricultural sector began in 2012 at the Ataturk Horticulture Institute, leading to the registration of new varieties like Viking and Nero. The fruit is now grown in numerous Turkish cities, with some areas engaging in organic production. Aronia stands out for its exceptional antioxidant content, as measured by the ORAC value, making it a significant addition to the country's agricultural portfolio.
