Brazil imported a record 2.7 million tons of fertilizers last month, a 38% increase from January 2020, as it seeks to increase grain harvest and reduce its reliance on other countries for agricultural production. The country's grain production is expected to rise to 268 million tons this year, up from under 200 million five years ago. However, this expansion has increased Brazil's dependence on imports of harvesters, agrochemicals, and other necessary products, with total spending on these imports reaching US $ 291 million and R $ 8.8 billion, respectively, in the last three years. The main suppliers of these products were the United States, China, and India.
