UK tightens rules on personal pork imports

Personal imports limited to 2kg As reported by the Ministry of Agriculture, a ban was introduced on the personal import of pork and pork products from the European Economic Area, the Faroe Islands, Greenland and Switzerland on 27 September, unless the products have been produced and packaged in accordance with EU trade standards and weigh less than 2kg. Border controls must be strengthened The British Department of Agriculture (DEFRA) has taken further protective measures to prevent the introduction of African swine fever (ASF) into the UK. DEFRA has made preventing the outbreak of ASF in the UK one of its top priorities. Breaches of the requirements for the import of pork and pork products are punishable by the equivalent of almost €6,000. Funding for border controls in this area has recently been increased to €3.7 million for the 2024/2025 season.
