[By Cho Young-gyu, Korea Farmers' Newspaper] A premium melon new variety called 'Cotton Candy' has borne its first harvest in Seongju, North Gyeongsang Province, a major production area for chamoe melons. 'Cotton Candy' is a new variety created by grafting a high-sugar white-skinned melon variety called 'Honeydew' with a variety known in China as the 'Emperor's Melon'. According to Asia Seed Company, 'Cotton Candy' has a sugar content of up to 22 Brix. Its flesh is crisp and has excellent taste, which is why it is recognized as a premium melon. The fruit weighs between 800g and 1.5kg, is sized between a chamoe and a regular melon, with a white rind and orange flesh.
