[Korean Farmers' News, Reporter Kim Young-min] A nationwide distribution map has been created to provide a comprehensive view of the occurrence status of 14 plant viruses that are problematic in agricultural fields, and it will be used as a basic data for future regional plant virus management. The National Institute of Agricultural Science selected 14 plant viruses, including Tomato spotted wilt virus, Tomato yellow leaf curl virus, six viruses that have recently entered from abroad and are causing damage to farms, and eight viruses that are of additional concern for potential entry, to create the nationwide distribution map. The Agricultural Science Institute selected the target viruses based on the results of pest risk assessments from 2020 to 2024, focusing on medium-risk status and sudden outbreaks that are of concern for potential damage.
