The Japanese Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) is reorganizing to create a new Export and International Bureau, aimed at boosting exports and improving income for the agriculture, forestry, and fishery industries. This move is in response to the declining domestic demand for rice and a growing overseas demand for Japanese food. The ministry plans to increase the export of agricultural products, including Japanese beef, apples, grapes, and green tea, and relax export restrictions to countries like China. The government's goal is to raise agricultural exports to JPY5tn (US $ 47bn) by 2030.
