Avian flu affects a new farm in Valladolid with 727,000 laying hens

The veterinary authorities of the Junta de Castilla y León have reported this Monday an outbreak of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI), subtype H5N1, in a farm with approximately 727,000 laying hens in Olmedo (Valladolid), about 5 kilometers from the confirmed outbreak on September 19 in the same municipality. With this case, the Central Veterinary Laboratory of Algete, a reference in Spain, has confirmed ten outbreaks of HPAI in poultry in Spain in 2025, detected in Badajoz (1), Toledo (1), Huelva (2), Guadalajara (1), Valladolid (4), and Madrid (1), according to sources from the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Rural Development. In addition, since July 1, 40 outbreaks have been detected in wild birds in Andalusia, Extremadura, Galicia, Asturias, Basque Country, Castilla-La Mancha, Castilla y León, Madrid, and Catalonia, and 2 outbreaks in captive birds in the Basque Country and Andalusia.
