Thai pig farmers are facing significant financial losses due to falling pig prices, which have dropped to around 70 baht/kg, significantly below the production cost of 100.07 baht/kg, due to an influx of illegal pork in the market. This has been exacerbated by a surge in animal feed costs. The Chachoengsao Swine Raising Club has urged the government to prevent illegal pigs from entering Thailand and to expedite inspections of over 1,000 containers stored at Laem Chabang Port, believing that illegal pigs are being hidden in these containers. The club also wants the government to speed up the inspection of 'cold storage cabinets', where illegal pigs are often hidden. The National Association of Swine Raisers has reported a continuous decrease in farm-to-table pig prices across all regions, largely due to the issue of smuggled pork.
